FC Midtjylland vs Rangers Preview

Rangers will look to reach the Europa League group stage for the second consecutive season under Steven Gerrard and this opponent represents an upgrade in the quality of opposition that they have been playing so far.

Rangers have kept up their impressive form of last season with a solid pre-season behind them and a good run in the Europa League so far.  They would be keen to get a good first-leg advantage ahead of the return leg at Ibrox and it should be interesting to see how their Danish opponents treat them here.

Midtjylland has been in impressive form the start of this season as well and this game should be a major test of their quality.

They ended last season second in the league table in Denmark and have begun this one in fine form.  They have won all of their four competitive games in Denmark this season conceding just a single goal.

Rangers have a solid record against Danish opponents as they have won all three visits in Europe there while the Gers have also won 5 of their last 6 games against Danish sides.

Bookmakers have priced Midtjylland up as very slight favourites to come out on top in this opening leg however the odds are within a 10th of a point so a tiny splash of cash could see Rangers start the game as favourites.

Goal markets understandably point to a tight first leg as under 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on prior to kick-off while Jermain Defoe is favourite to score the opening goal of the game closely followed by Alfredo Morelos.
