Chelsea vs Valencia
Competition – Champions League
Stadium – Stamford Bridge
Date: 17th September 2019
Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT
Chelsea starts the Lampard reign in Europe in this game as they look to continue their good domestic form so far.
The Blues midfielder featured the last time these sides met in the Champions League as the Blues went on to win their one and only Champions League crown in 2012.
He will now be leading his former side as a manager. He may be a rookie manager after cutting his teeth only last season at Derby County, but he seems to be getting better with better players at his disposal and they will be looking to get a win here.
Valencia come here after a 5-2 loss to Barcelona in La Liga at the weekend. Most people feel that game would have been more evenly balanced had Los Che not fired Marcelino Garcia over the international break.
The Spaniard had done so well for them, helping them to consecutive top-four finishes, but he fell out with the club’s owner and paid with his job.
Los Che now has a manager who is even newer to senior football than Frank Lampard. Albert Celades has only been managing at Spain’s youth teams before now and it will be interesting to see how he performs here.
Bookmakers have priced Chelsea up as slight odds-on favourites to come out on top in this game while Valencia will start the game as underdogs.
Goal markets point to a potentially exciting game as over 2.5 goals is trading odds-on prior to kick-off.
