Napoli vs Liverpool Preview

Napoli vs Liverpool

Competition – Champions League

Stadium – San Paolo

Date: 17th September 2019

Kick-off time – 20:00 GMT

Defending Champions Liverpool begin their title defence with this very tough trip to Naples and Jurgen Klopp would be hoping that his players can do better than the last time they were here.

These sides were in the same group last season and Liverpool visited the Stadio San Paolo first, but they were beaten 1-0 by the Italians after they were caught out by a late cut back from Jose Callejon which allowed Lorenzo Insigne to score a 90th-minute winner.

Jurgen Klopp’s side has made a solid start to the new season and he will be hoping that they can take their domestic form into Europe starting from this game.

Napoli is looking to end the dominance of Juventus in Italy, but the Naples side now faces another threat from a new and improved Inter Milan side under Antonio Conte.

Carlo Ancelotti knows what it means to play Liverpool in Europe and he will not be in a hurry to forget how the Reds came from 3 goals down to beat his Milan side on penalties in 2005.

Napoli welcome the Reds 5th in the Serie A table, but they earned a morale-boosting 2-0 win over Sampdoria at the weekend and that should do their confidence a world of good ahead of this game.

Liverpool has pulled 5 points clear at the top of the Premier League table as the Reds look to end their wait for a Premier League crown.  Confidence is high at the camp of Liverpool however they will do well not to underestimate how good Napoli can play when they play at home.

Goal markets have priced Liverpool up as slight favourites to come out on top in this game however the odds are extremely close and Napoli are priced up competitively.
