AC Milan vs Lazio Preview

Stefano Pioli earned his first win as Milan’s manager when they beat SPAL 1-0 at the San Siro on Thursday.  That win was hardly inspiring but it gives Pioli some motivation that he can perhaps do what several managers before him have failed to do which is to qualify for the Champions League.

Milan are currently 10th in the league table, 6 points behind the top four and 4 points behind their visitors who have been in better shape this season.

Milan has won 4 and lost 5 of their opening 10 league games this season.  They also begin this game with a negative goal difference of -3 so they will have to be close to their best to get anything from this impressive Lazio side.

Lazio has made a fine start to the season after picking up 5 wins and 3 draws from their opening 10 league games.

Simone Inzaghi’s side has not lost any of their last 5 league games and has only been beaten once in their last 7 competitive games which was a 2-1 loss at Celtic Park in the Europa League.

They remain in the hunt for a return to Champions League football and are within touching distance as they head into this game.

With 18 points on the board already, Lazio are just three points behind Atalanta who are 3rd and a point behind city rivals AS Roma who are 4th.

Roma have a tough fixture against Napoli this weekend so Lazio will be hoping to take advantage and sneak into the top four by the start of the new week if Roma drop points.
