Conneticut Shooting – Adam Lanza – The Facts

The facts

The killer/shooter – Adam Lanza – Multiple major news websites and news outlets reported the shooter to be Ryan Lanza (Adam’s brother) and have effectively forced a wave of hate onto the 24 year old.  The supposed reason for the confusion is that Adam was carrying his brother’s identification and this caused confusion with reports.

The dead – At least 27 people are believed to be dead.  Adam’s father, who has been reported dead by many news websites is alive and has been questioned by authorities along with Ryan Lanza, though neither are suspects.

The weapons – It’s believed Adam used two handguns and one semi-automatic rifle.

Motive – Adam Lanza has been described as being “repressed”, “odd” and his brother, Ryan told authorities his brother is Autistic.  Several relatives are currently being questioned in order to paint a better picture of the killer.

The Story – Shortly before 10am Adam Lanza drove his mothers car to Sandy Hook elementary wearing a bulletproof vest and black attire, entered the school and began shooting.  Confirmed victims are at least 20 children (names have not yet been released), the school principle and the school psychologist.  Later police discovered the body of Adam Lanza’s mother at their home; she had been shot before Adam took her car to Sandy Hook.  Adam Lanza’s body was found inside the school; it’s believed he killed himself after the massacre.

The Aftermath – President Obama made a speech (which you can view below) saying “I know there’s not a parent in America who doesn’t feel the same overwhelming grief that I do”. He also offered Governor Malloy his support in helping to investigate this crime and also aid those affected with counselling or anything else they may need.

On a very sad day it’s rather disheartening to see major news outlets and major news websites reporting multiple false statements and multiple “fluff filled” articles in order to grab as much traffic as they can.  As important as news is, it’s far more important that news is accurate and contains only facts that have been confirmed/verified.

Our hearts and prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy and we truly hope that the victims families receive the appropriate care and attention they need during this difficult time.
