Newcastle vs QPR Match Preview – Barclays Premier League

Newcastle take on QPR this Saturday at 15:00 GMT at St James’ Park with both teams desperate for a win.  Newcastle have lost 5 of their last 7 matches and manager Alan Pardew will be under extreme pressure if they fail to get a result this weekend against a team who have only won 1 game in 17 matches.  QPR managed to get their first win last weekend against Fulham and it looks like the appointment of Harry Redknapp is having a positive effect on his teams performances.  Both teams have struggled this season; more surprisingly Newcastle, who have a strong squad and a manager who is determined to succeed.   Newcastle currently sit 15th in the Barclays Premier League, just two points from the relegation zone and seven points ahead of QPR.  QPR sit 19th and five points off the relegation zone making this a must win game for them.  If QPR lose and results around the country go against them, they could find themselves 8 points from safety with extremely tough games against Liverpool and Chelsea to come over the Christmas period.  Newcastle also have a tough Christmas period ahead with trips to Manchester United and Arsenal.

Newcastle have many key, injured players including Steven Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye.  Gabriel Orbertan is struggling with a toe injury and has a 50/50 chance of being fit for the game.  QPR currently have no major injury worries.

The current betting odds for this match are: Newcastle (11/10) Draw (12/5) QPR (5/2).

While previewing this match, it simply has the feel of a frustrating day at St James’ Park, particularly because Newcastle will be without Ben Arfa who has been instrumental and can turn a game on its head in an instant.
