Royal Ascot 2013: Tips & Racecards Day 1

The 2013 Royal Ascot meeting gets underway this Tuesday afternoon with Dubai World Cup and Kentucky Derby winning horse Animal Kingdom set to run in the opening race, the Queen Anne Stakes. A total of 30 races are scheduled over the 5 day event with prize money totaling £5m.

Tuesday features the Queen Anne Stakes and the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Racecards and selections are posted below (click to enlarge any racecard).

2:30 Queen Anne Stakes
Group 1
Winners prize – £198,485

Gamingtips Tip: ANIMAL KINGDOM will be a short priced favourite to win the opening race (around 4/5).  ANIMAL KINGDOM finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in November followed by a win in the Dubai World Cup less than three months ago winning approx. £3.5m.  In finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Mile,  ANIMAL KINGDOM finished ahead of EXCELEBRATION who chased FRANKEL home on multiple occasions.  Form is good, ground and trip should suit – odds of 4/5 may seem short but form with EXCELEBRATION warrants this price considering FRANKEL won this race at odds of 1/10 last year.

3:05 King’s Stand Stakes
Group 1
Winners prize –  £198,485

Gamingtips Tip: SHEA SHEA looks a very smart sprinter and although this is a very competitive sprint, SHEA SHEA has won 6 of his 9 starts beating JOY AND FUN last time out and prior to that, SOLE POWER who also takes his place in this race.  PROHIBIT may be worth a loook each-way – won this race in 2011, looks a very smart chaser and is currently trading at odds of 33/1.

3:45 St James’s Palace Stakes
Group 1
Winner £198,485

Gamingtips Tip: DAWN APPROACH is our biggest fancy of the day – disappointed in the Investec Derby at Epsom last time out, beaten 33 lengths and went off the 5/4 favourite, wouldn’t settle that day, raced keenly throughout and pulled hard, was upped in trip by 4 furlongs that day and was beaten a long way from home.  Back at 1mile today, having won 7/7 at distances of 1mile or shorter, DAWN APPROACH faces MAGICIAN and TORONADO who she defeated comfortably at Newmarket in May (beat Toronado by 8 lengths).  DAWN APPROACH was trading at 7/4 last week but is now clear favourite with most bookmakers around 5/4 which still seems reasonable considering the fact she easily defeated both of her main rivals earlier in the season.  MAGICIAN won the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas impressively last time out and may have improved since his last meeting with DAWN APPROACH while TORONADO’s only defeat came against DAWN APPROACH last time out.  A difficult race but if  DAWN APPROACH was waited with for this race, she would be 4/6 or 4/7 and odds of 5/4 or bigger are generous.

4:25 Coventry Stakes
Group 2
Winners prize – £68,052

Gamingtips Tip: STUBBS

5:00 Ascot Stakes
Class 2
Winners prize – £37,350

Gamingtips Tips: HOMERIC each-way, LIEUTENANT MILLER each-way

5:35 Windsor Castle Stakes
Listed race (class 1)
Winners prize – £34,026

Gamingtips Tips: STEVENTON STAR each-way, HAIKBIDIAC each-way

  1. Hi,

I like Toronado in the 3:45. Rich Hughe’s thinks this horse is one of the best he has ridden!
