Greece U20 vs Paraguay U20 Match Preview: FIFA Under 20 World Cup

Greece under 20’s meet Paraguay under 20’s at the Hüseyin Avni Aker Stadium on Friday afternoon in a game that could decide who will finish top of Group D.

Greece managed a shock win against Mexico in their opening match (2:1) followed by a scoreless draw against Mali last time out.  Paraguay drew 1:1 with Mali in their opening match and defeated mexico 1:0 in their latest outing.  These two teams are joint top of Group D, level on points, level on goal difference and a win for either side will ensure a place in the knockout stages of the FIFA Under 20 World Cup.

Before the tournament started, Mexico were favourites to progress from this group however both Greece and Paraguay managed to defy the odds and defeat Mexico putting themselves in the driving seat.  Both sides have looked very good defensively (Greece conceded 1 goal in 2 games, Paraguay conceded 2 in 2) and although Paraguay are favourites to win this match with bookmakers, Greece were 4/1 outsiders to defeat Mexico and they managed to pull off a shock in the opening game of their tournament and so odds of 13/5 appears value given the fact that both sides defeated Mexico and both sides forced a draw against Mali.

Nerves may play a part but we should expect a tight game with few goals given both sides good defensive records.
