Germany vs Austria Match Preview: World Cup Qualifying

Austria face Germany this Friday evening in a World Cup Qualifier at the Allianz Arena in a game that sees first and second of group C go head-to-head.

Germany currently top group C with 5 wins and 1 draw (16 points).

Austria are currently second with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss (11 points) – Sweden and Ireland also have 11 points but have an inferior goal difference.

A win for Germany will cement their position at the top of group C while a win for Austria will push them above Sweden and Ireland who face eachother at the same time on Friday.

Form

Germany have lost 1 in 7 (friendly game against USA) while Austria have lost 3 out of their last 7.

Group C currently looks like this:

Group C

Germany play pointless Faroe Islands on Tuesday in a game they should win comfortably so a win against Austria on Friday will almost ensure passage to Brazil 2014.

Austria play Ireland at home on Tuesday evening in a game neither side will want to lose.

Head-to-head

These two sides have met 7 times in recent years and Germany have been dominant (Germany 7 wins, Austria 0 wins, 0 Draws).

History

The last 5 meetings between these two sides finished 2:1, 6:2, 2:1, 1:0 and 3:0.

Bookmakers side strongly with Germany.

Current betting odds: Germany (2/11) Draw (6/1) Austria (12/1)

Gamingtips Prediction – Germany 4:1 Austria

Ultimately Germany should have more than enough quality to overcome an Austrian side who struggled against Ireland before snatching a late equaliser.

Germany are unbeaten in qualifying and their two top goal scorers, Mesut Ozil and Marco Reus will be looking to add to their totals (scored 5 each in qualifying).

Austria pulled off a shock when they defeated Sweden 2:1 last time and prior to that, they drew 2:2 with Ireland and defeated the Faroe Islands 6:0.

Austria have a strong squad and should not be dismissed lightly but they face a very strong German side who are unbeaten in qualifying and have been playing some exceptional football as of late.

Odds of 2/11 aren’t great about Germany so over 3.5 goals at odds of 5/6 appears to be the best option from a betting perspective given that Germany have scored 3 or more goals in each of their last 5 matches and the fact that Austria have scored on 3 of their last meetings against Germany.

There is no specific team news as of yet but we can expect a full strength German side as they will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten record throughout qualifying.

This game gets underway at 19:45 GMT+1
