Dallas Mavericks vs Miami Heat

The Dallas Mavericks visit the Miami Heat on Friday, November 15 2013 at the American Airlines Arena in a matchup of the last two NBA champions.

The Dallas Mavericks had hoped to sign some of the big name free agents this offseason, free agents like Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul. Paul decided to stay with the Los Angeles Clippers, while Dwight Howard decided to sign with the Houston Rockets.

Even though they did not get the players they wanted, the Mavericks did not stand pat. They signed Center Samuel Dalembert, shooting guard Monta Ellis; they also signed point guard Jose Calderon, and brought back former point guard Devin Harris. The Mavericks managed to get some good value for the money they were going to spend on the big name free agents, and managed to improve their team.

The Mavericks ended a two game losing streak by defeating the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday; they are currently 4-3 with a game against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, November 12. They are currently 2nd in the league in scoring, averaging 107 points per game, but need to pick up the slack on defense because they are allowing 104.4 points per game which is 26th in the league.

Dirk Nowitzki is playing better this season, and is averaging more points than he did last year when he missed a lot of games and was dealing with injuries most of the season, and is expected to lead his team to the playoffs.

The Miami Heat have had a slow start to this season, they lost two of their first three games before getting back on track by winning three of their next four. They still aren’t as dominant as they have been the past two years when they won the NBA championship. Current league MVP LeBron James is playing through a back injury, and All Star shooting guard Dwayne Wade has missed a game as well.

The Miami Heat are also currently 4-3, and will play the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, November 12 before their game against the Mavericks.

Miami is 5th in the league in scoring, averaging 105.1 points per game. They have been one of the league’s best offensive teams since the “big three” were brought together, they have also been known for their defense, but are struggling on the defensive end this season, allowing an average of 100.9 points per game, and are the worst rebounding team in the league this season.

Expect this to be an offensive shootout, because both teams are a couple of the best scoring teams in the league, and neither team play that much defense.

Miami Heat are strong favourites with bookmakers to come out on top in this tie.
