Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs Preview

The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs meet on Sunday, November 17 at 8:30 ET. This is the first meeting between both teams this season, and the division lead is at stake. Denver was supposed to dominate the division this season much like they did last year when they went undefeated in division games.

The Broncos are on pace to break the regular season record for most points scored by a team, and Peyton Manning is on pace to have the greatest statistical season for a quarterback. He is currently completing 71% of his passes for 3,249 yards, with 33 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. They have been on a roll all season with the exception of the game they lost against the Indianapolis Colts, which was Manning’s first game back in Indianapolis since he was released.

They signed slot receiver Wes Welker from the Patriots which was a boost to an already potent offense, and he is currently tied with teammates Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas for second in the league with 9 touchdowns.

Tight end Julius Thomas has been another surprise for the Broncos; he is fast becoming one of the better tight ends in the league, and has 547 already after an injury plagued 2012 season where he had 1 reception for 5 yards.

The Kansas City Chiefs were coming off a disastrous 2-14 season despite the fact that they had six Pro Bowlers on the team. They hired Andy Reid in the offseason, and they are already seeing what a good coach brings to a team, because they are the only undefeated team in the league right now.

They are winning games with their defense, they have allowed the least points so far, and are ranked 1st in points allowed per game at 12.3. They also lead the league in sacks with 36, with Justin Houston and Tamba Hali leading the way with 11 and 9 sacks respectively. The Chiefs also lead the league in turnover differential with 23 takeaways and 15 giveaways. Andy Reid traded for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith to manage the offense and give the team some consistency at the position, something they were lacking last season.

Running back Jamaal Charles is leading the way on offense with 725 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns, which is good for 5th in the league. Alex Smith is doing what he does best, and not making any big mistakes in critical situations.

This is a game between the best offense and defense in the NFL, the division lead is also at stake and both teams are trying to prove to the rest of the league that they are legitimate contenders. This could end up being one of the great games of the season.

The Denver Broncos are clear favourites with bookmakers to come out on top in this tie.
