Rapid Vienna travel to the Amsterdam ArenA this Tuesday evening to face Ajax in the second leg of their Champions League third round qualifying match-up.

The first leg was an enthralling encounter – Ajax were 2:0 up thanks to two goals from Davy Klaassen before Rapid Vienna fought back in the second half with goals from Florian Kainz and Robert Beric.

Rapid Vienna defeated last years Austrian Bundesliga winners Salzburg over the weekend 2:1 in a game where bookmakers thought they would lose.

Rapid Vienna showed great fight and determination to come back last week against Ajax however they need to either keep a clean sheet or score at least two goals at the Amsterdam ArenA which is a very difficult task.

Ajax got off to a great start in Vienna before letting slip their two goal advantage – they will be looking for an early goal to settle the nerves and force Vienna to score at least two goals if they are to qualify.

Bookmakers make Ajax odds-on favourites to come out on top in this tie.  Ajax are 5/6  to come out on top while Rapid Vienna are 16/5 to win at the Amsterdam ArenA.  The draw is currently trading at odds of 13/5.

Ultimately Ajax are in the drivers seat in this tie.  A solid defensive performance and a 1:0 victory for Vienna is good enough to see them qualify however Ajax are strong at home and will be looking for an early goal to force Vienna to come out and attack.

Other than a 1:0 victory for Rapid Vienna, it’s difficult to see them qualifying – Ajax are a very strong team and we should expect to see them progress to the group stages of the Champions League.
