Liverpool’s newest addition Virgil van Dijk had a debut to remember last week Friday as he scored the winner in the FA Cup match against Everton.
They now turn their attention to try to stop the seemingly unbeatable Manchester City in this game.
The Reds are currently not doing poorly themselves as they are currently on a run of 17 games without a defeat and they have won 9 of their last 13 league games ahead of this match.
They sold Philippe Coutinho last week but they have enough cover in attack and should not miss the Brazilian too much.
Mo. Salah is back after missing the last two games through injury and he remains the second highest goal scorer in the league with 17 goals – only one goal behind Harry Kane and he will most likely be supported in attack by Roberto Firmino who has already netted 17 times in all competitions this season.
The Reds do have their defensive problems as they have conceded 13 goals in 22 league games this season which is the highest by any top five side and their fans will be hoping the signing of van Dijk can help solve that problem.
Manchester City won the first leg of this game 5-0 at the Etihad last year and while they know such a score line is unlikely at Anfield, they should be reasonably optimistic as they have won 8 of their last 10 matches in all competitions and remain unbeaten in the league.
Crystal Palace became the first team in 19 league games to stop them from winning and they were fortunate not to lose their unbeaten run in that game also.
They have won 20 of 22 league games this season and have won all but one of their away matches his season also.
Palace were able to stifle City by being organized at the back and breaking into devastating counter attacks.
Liverpool are not known for that style of play so the Reds will most likely be on the attack from the beginning which could lead to a high scoring game.
