This is Arsene Wenger’s last season as Arsenal’s boss and this competition presents him with the last opportunity he has to win another trophy with the Gunners and bow out on a high.
The fans may have be clamoring for his exit over the past few seasons, but now is the time for them to get behind him so they can both enjoy the end of his reign.
The players are also looking to give him a befitting goodbye and they showed that they are still willing to fight for him in their 4-1 win over West Ham at the weekend after a disappointing loss at Newcastle the previous weekend.
The Gunners are now certain to miss out on Champions League qualification via the league table as they have fallen 11 points behind Tottenham who are fourth, but winning this trophy would help them get there.
Atletico Madrid are big European competitors however, they disappointed in the Champions League this season, exiting in the group stage.
Diego Simeone has now taken the Europa League seriously as he looks to bring his first trophy to the Wanda Metropolitana.
Atletico may be second in the La Liga table, but they have not been impressive recently.
They have won just one of their last 5 games, losing two including their second leg loss in the quarterfinal of this competition to Sporting Lisbon, which would give Arsenal some confidence that they can rattle the Spaniards.
