Switzerland vs Costa Rica Preview

While Switzerland have a place in the next round to play for, Costa Rica would have packed their bags before they take to the field in this match.

Switzerland opened their campaign with an impressive 1-1 draw against Brazil.

They went into their second match needing a win to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive, and they almost failed to do so.

By half time they were 1-0 down however they came out stronger in the second half and strikes from Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri earned them an emotional win over Serbia.

They need a win here to go through and they should get the job done as Costa Rica have nothing to play for.

Costa Rica were the surprise package of the last World Cup as they topped a group that included Italy, Uruguay and England.

However, this time around they couldn’t get near the level of performance they showed in Brazil.

They lost their first game against Serbia, before almost earning an infamous draw against Brazil in their next game.

However, the Brazilians started scoring in injury time and managed to score two goals to eliminate the Central Americans.

With nothing to play for, the Costa Ricans could give some of their utility players an opportunity to grace the field at the World Cup and that should make things easier for Switzerland.

Bookmakers make Switzerland slight odds-on favourites to come out on top however the odds are tight and Costa Rica have a live chance of causing an upset despite having nothing to play for.
