Netherlands vs England

Competition – UEFA Nations League

Stadium – Estádio D. Alfonso Henriques

Date: 6th June 2019

Kick-off time – 19:45 GMT

Two of this competition’s favourites meet in the semifinal as they look to get the chance to compete for the trophy on Sunday.

These sides are filled with players who have just been involved in the UEFA Champions League final which Liverpool won after beating Tottenham 2-0.

The Netherlands would feel like they have the slight advantage as Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum both returned to their camp as winners, while the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Ali suffered heartbreaks.  Gareth Southgate can only hope that they can both recover in time to play well in this game if selected.

The Netherlands are a side that has been on the up since Ronald Koeman was named manager and they seem to be improving with every fixture.

With the defencive partnership of Van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt, expect the Three Lions to work very hard to score against them especially if Southgate opts for the match rusty Kane to lead his attack.

The Netherlands are slightly better on the head-to-head as England have only beaten them twice in the last 14 times these two sides have met.

Four of the last five meetings between these sides have ended in both teams finding the back of the net.

Bookmakers have priced England up as slight favourites to come out on top in this game however the odds are close and Holland will undoubtedly have support as slight underdogs.

Goal markets point to a low-scoring affair as under 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Harry Kane is clear favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
