Chile vs Peru

Competition – Copa America

Stadium – Grêmio Arena

Date: 3rd July 2019

Kick-off time – 01:30 BST (4th July)

Chile has defied the odds to go this far and it is now a question of whether they have the legs to make history and become the first team to win three consecutive Copa America titles in this modern era.

The Chileans came into this competition off the back of a poor run of form with many people writing them off, but they started the competition as a team who meant business by dispatching Japan 4-0, following that up with a 2-1 win over Ecuador in their second group game to secure qualification.

The Chileans have since struggled to win games losing their last group game to Uruguay and then needing penalties to win their quarterfinal against Colombia.  It would be a major win for them if they win this game and reach the finals.

Peru were one of the best teams at the last World Cup in Russia as they thrilled fans with their attacking style of play and became the darling team of several fans.

However, they find themselves in an unfamiliar position as they are the only team in these semifinals who doesn’t have as much pedigree as the rest and it’s safe to say they are the underdogs here.

Peru have won just one game in normal time in this competition.  They would, however, count their win over Uruguay in the quarters as a major milestone as they held on well and triumphed on penalties.

The Peruvians have some of the most exciting attacking players at this competition and they could be a handful for Chile in this game so expect an exciting match.

Bookmakers have priced Chile up as slight odds-on favourites to come out on top in this game while Peru will start the game as slight underdogs.

Goal markets point to a tight affair as under 2.5 goals is currently trading odds-on while Alexis Sanchez is clear favourite to score the opening goal of the game.
