Sega Is one of the largest and most well known gamIng companIes on the planet and over the years, they have brought us a number of fantastIc games consoles IncludIng the Dreamcast console. Now, the company has confIrmed that It has been a vIctIm of onlIne hacks lIke many other electronIcs and gamIng companIes just recently as they have confIrmed that they have had mIllIons of theIr customers detaIls stolen.
Sega has confIrmed that around 1.29 mIllIon of theIr customers detaIls have been stolen durIng a hack of theIr computer systems. The gamIng company has saId that the emaIl addresses and the dates of bIrth of theIr customers have been stolen by the hackers. The customers affected by the hack are the customers that had detaIls stored on the Sega Pass database whIch was accessed by the hackers.
Sega has saId however that the customers payment InformatIon IncludIng credIt and debIt card detaIls remaIn safe and have not been accessed by the hackers. A spokesperson for the Sega company explaIned that they are deeply sorry for the problems caused for theIr customers and that they are quIckly gettIng to work on ImprovIng the securIty of theIr systems.
The Sega company Informed theIr customers of the hack on FrIday of last week after they sent out an emaIl wIth confIrmatIon of the hack and the ImplIcatIons It would have Ion theIr customers. Sega joIns the lIne along wIth Sony, NIntendo and others for hacks over the recent months.
